Perched atop the Bilwa Parvat of the Shivalik Hills in Haridwar, Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in Northern India. Dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi—believed to be a form of Shakti and the mind-born daughter of Sage Kashyap—the temple draws millions of devotees each year who seek blessings, fulfillment of desires, and spiritual solace.
Goddess Mansa is worshipped as the goddess who fulfills wishes (hence the name Mansa, meaning wish or desire). She is also regarded as the protector from snake bites and the bestower of health, wealth, and spiritual upliftment. It is widely believed that tying a sacred thread to the branches of the temple's holy tree fulfills the devotee’s wish, which is untied after the wish is granted.
Located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, the temple offers a panoramic view of the holy Ganga River and the bustling town below. The serene ambiance combined with the scenic surroundings makes the spiritual experience more profound. The temple is one of the Panch Tirths (Five Pilgrimages) within Haridwar.
Mansa Devi Temple can be reached in two ways:
Trekking: A scenic uphill walk through winding forest paths.
Ropeway (Udan Khatola): A popular and convenient choice, offering a breathtaking aerial view of Haridwar and the Ganges.
Wish Thread Tying: Devotees tie red or yellow sacred threads on the tree in the temple courtyard.
Puja Offerings: Flowers, coconuts, and vermilion are offered to the goddess with deep devotion.
Navratri Celebrations: The temple is especially vibrant during Navratri when thousands of pilgrims visit to offer prayers and seek divine blessings.
Mansa Devi, along with Chandi Devi Temple and Maya Devi Temple, forms the three Siddhpeeths of Haridwar. Pilgrimage to all three is considered highly auspicious and spiritually rewarding.
